Artistic Statement
This is what I want to know:
What do you do if your partner has written a bad novel and wants to hear what you think?
What do you do if you see someone shoplifting?
What do you do if your employer has sexually harassed you?
Plays, even the shortest of plays, can ask those questions. And in the course of the play, decisions will be made and things will be said—-things that cannot be taken back. Relationships may be broken forever or unexpectedly mended. These are the elements of playwriting that interest me most.
My plays offer characters who speak realistically—both in short, rat-a-tat lines and in long speeches. They offer characters who speak in lofty language, if that’s who they are. You’ll find my characters in outer space, in 1950s kitchens, in livings rooms just like your own.
I want you to see my plays and then ask yourself—what would I do?
