Artistic Statement

My plays in recent years have all been about an emotional state that entirely consumes an individual. In my play HAPPY I wanted to see if I could write a play with a central protagonist who's tragic flaw was their sense of contentedness. LUCKY ME explores how good luck and bad luck can define and wholly consume an individual identity. My new play THE OPEN HAND explores the nature of Generosity -- why are some people naturally giving, and other's entirely suspicious of another person's generosity. I also like to write plays that are (to quote Pinter) "comedies until they stop being comedies."
