As a freshman in college in a liberal arts theatre program, I did not get cast in any of the plays I auditioned for. In a very 18 year old way, I decided that it was because I was garbage and not meant to be an actor. I had been acting since the age of five at a small theater in Brunswick, Maine called the Theater Project. I had built my whole identity around acting and suddenly felt like that wasn't where I belonged anymore. Though disappointing to not get cast any anything, it is what initially pushed me to turn to writing for the stage and writing for the sarcastic, angry, nervous girls like me. My first piece "Street Harassment: A Love Story" was a part of Denison University's first Genital Monologues, a gender inclusive, student-written answer to Eve Ensler's the Vagina Monologues. The monologue was in the form of a Craigslist Missed Connection ad for a woman trying to find the 'gentleman' who had shouted out the window at her. I realized what had been missing from a lot of my years of reciting Shakespeare and memorizing Miller was that, my voice and my peers' voices were not centered. I want to make new theater that centers the voices of people living write now, not 50 or 100 or 500 years ago. As Viola Spolin proved to us time and time again, theatre is a tool of social reform and social justice, and it is not living up to its full potential when it does anything less than that.

I am a playwright, sketch comedian, essayist, and storyteller. My writing centers queerness, feminism, and mental health and often involves themes of belonging and ambition.
