What I appreciate about playwriting and theater is that at its heart, it is the competition and co-mingling of ideas, desires, passions, and ideologies made flesh. It is a reminder that even the presumed villain is seeking their own good and that to arrive at a new equilibrium, competing ideas, passions, and people must sort things out. Beyond that, I am interested in the problem behind the problem. We carve up the world in lines of race, class, gender, etc. but behind that is our need to carve the world which is part of the infrastructure of our minds.
