Artistic Statement

“Queer” is a broad category for me and encompasses what is renegade and unorthodox in all of us. I have never fit easily into clear categories, even categories created by queer and other fringe communities, and my work reflects this. My characters find themselves living between worlds, between communities, between existing identities, and striking out to forge new paths for themselves. Discovering personal agency or a new sense of identity is a thrilling theatrical moment, one I love to put on stage. I hope my work inspires others to do the same – whether it is a young person looking for encouragement and validation, or a person like me realizing that our identities are forever evolving. We are never finished becoming the person we want to be, or discovering who we are and what we can do.
