Artistic Statement

“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”
― Oscar Wilde

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to create art that was tangible. To create something where I could say, “I made this.” Writing plays allows me that. I have worked in many aspects of theatre, not only as a writer, but as a teacher, actor, and director. For me, writing allows me to give myself over completely to the production in all its aspects, in a completely different way from any other form.

I love creating a world and holding that world firmly in my hands. And when it’s time to turn it over, I am able to interact with other artists who are also part of this world. The director, who has their own interpretation of the story, the designers, with all their expertise and glorious ideas, decorate this world; the actors bring this world to life, and I’m in the middle of all this chaos and heartache and joy and discovery, guiding everyone along and inviting the audience to partake in an experience that is unique and all its own, and will never come along again.
