A brilliant play that uses a taut, skillful structure to create tension. Highly theatrical yet feels very real and grounded. A kind of fugue for 4 actors who each have significant monologues and moments to dig in and shine. Vying for power saturates the play as it shows us the moment before the revolution/moments of the revolution and how the West influences the characters and the deeply oppressive internal conflicts as Hisham and Layla are both tempted in various ways.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Edith

A super-campy exploration of shame and punishment at the end of the world, Edith fills me with joy! Parnes takes the family drama and turns it into a Biblical psycho-delic farce that held me wrapt with attention. Loved the details. I want to see this live!

What a beautiful exploration of the different ways people grieve and how a couple can stay together or not after tremendous loss. I was moved to tears. I could feel my heart with this couple throughout the piece. What a gift it is! We need more opportunities to see strong plays like this that use such gorgeous language, imagery, and authenticity to delve into the aftermath of loss. A gift!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Blue Eyes

Wonderfully written to address the ways female bodies are policed, this stunning short play gives us so much! I love this play! Intensity ramps up as Swan pressurizes the language with great economy. Piercing, pointed questioning and a repetition of that keeps me aware of Laura's bodily needs and Jamie's power to deny them. I hope it gets produced a lot! We need this play and all the discussions about it afterwards.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Ronnie, Rosie, and the Feminine Mystique

I love the energy of the post prom angst and the air guitar moment, how Chinn puts her characters in prom clothes against the set of a seedy motel with the dusty bedspread. This will be so much fun to do - the moment to moment work for the characters! And a hit at any festival! So much to think about in terms of gender and sexuality. LOVE!

Breathless after this beautiful journey. Absurdist and deeply moving, a philosophical exploration about finding our place in the world. I highly recommend!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: The Sylvan Tollway

Very funny compelling play that took me to potential connections to capitalism, systems of oppression and all kinds of fun. With the wolf as predator and the sheep as prey, we can be forced to behave in unpredictable ways. LaRocque has written a wonderful fable with great wordplay and will be a blast for performers and audiences. Kudos!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Song and Dance Man

Song and Dance Man brought tears to my eyes. I loved and laughed through the set up and the fun these characters have with each other on the surface and the very real impending marriage that deepens the emotional score here and will change the relationship forever. This play is such a beautiful exploration of the difficult feelings that brings up. Kudos!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Rubato

Regrets, I've had a few... and can relate to this moving play by Noah Parnes that compounds regret with what we ask our children to take on to maybe help us deal with our regrets. In Rubato, there is so much to consider here about teachers, critique, parents, and children and the choices that we make, a deep play about time and finding one's own tempo.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: The Shape Of Goodbye

The Shape of Goodbye is such beautifully crafted and moving work. I am struck by a complicated grief that is so relatable and the skillful way Mabey handles a difficult topic with so many stand-out lines, such crisp clear writing, it doesn't get better than this.
