Artistic Statement

I write plays about making the mundane mythical and the mythical mundane.
I'm fascinated by the cycles of history and the ways we try desperately to escape them.
I strive to make plays that are big, bold, and unapologetically earnest.
Kitchen sink dramas aren't any fun unless there's a Minotaur in the basement.
Sometimes, I have a distinct vision of Edward Albee reading my work and muttering "It's a bit much." Sometimes my work IS a bit much.
Sometimes it's not nearly enough.
And then, sometimes, it hits that sweet spot where I can sit back and say "Holy shit, I wrote a PLAY play."
I think all playwriting is a kind of exorcism.
Every play is haunted by ghosts the playwright couldn't quite escape.
Even the comedies.
ESPECIALLY the comedies.
I guess all I can say is: I hope you enjoy my ghosts.
