  • Lainie Vansant: El Yunque in English

A brilliantly crafted nugget of a play/monologue. Diaz-Marcano uses a wide range of linguistic tools to draw us into a situation that is contextualized by a specific and important moment, but also heart-wrenchingly universal. A great example of a clean ten minute play!

  • Lainie Vansant: Annie Jump and the Library of Heaven

Reina Hardy is quickly becoming one of my favorite playwrights. This play is both intimate and epic - an outer-space adventure with lots of spunk and a charming voice. I remember through Annie's story what it's like to be a teenager - a little bit afraid of your own wild dreams - and I wish more girls had an Althea to push them toward those dreams. Also, a massive space-library would still be awesome. Read it, produce it, then tell me so I can come watch it.

  • Lainie Vansant: Women's Ten Minute Play Selection Committee

Killed it. The clever twists and turns in this scathing little play had me laughing out loud. The balance of absurdity and reality (we see you, Neil Labute) mixed with Hageman's naturally quirky comedy keeps the audience invested, and when you remember at the end that all the characters are played by women, it's just that much better. Enjoy.

  • Lainie Vansant: Fairy Tale Career Aptitude Test

Adorable and hilarious. If you want a clever script for a huge cast about making your way and following your own dreams, this one is for you!

  • Lainie Vansant: The Journey of the Bell

Lee does a great job tying together several different stories with a plot that is relevant to her young audience. This show is light-hearted, fun, and flexible, building on Hans Christian Anderson's tales and making them fun for today's audience (I still can't get over Darth Vader and "Fantasy China"). Loved it!

  • Lainie Vansant: The Boy Who Cried Dragon

A sweet play full of magic, with some character-driven humor that winks at the adults now and then. Lovely.

  • Lainie Vansant: Quiz Out

Connolly writes with incredible love both for her queer protagonists and for the odd religious world they come from. It's beautiful to see these two worlds come together, balanced well by the light world of the Bible Quiz Bowl (which is, of course) very high-stakes for some of us...). A well-balanced dramedy that brought a tear to my eye.

  • Lainie Vansant: Saints Go Marching

This play is steeped in traditions - literary references, Catholic rituals, and Hispanic culture are all intricately interwoven into something beautifully specific that also connects on a universal level. Though there are more men than women, the women drive the story and all seven characters are rich and complex. Read this one - it's a gem!

    Haunting, magical, and undeniably unique.

  • Lainie Vansant: Ondine's Curse

Such a great story, I wish there was more! These characters have deep needs and wants, and the story itself is a great dialogue with the ideas that Disney tells us when we're young. There are some great monologues in here as well!
