Artistic Statement

I use the supernatural in ways that represent something we're used to hiding and ignoring. It’s different for every play. But that’s what I write about. I write because I have witnessed dialogue as spells and seen the way they shift the mind and change the world an audience member has lived in from that moment thereafter. I’m trying to shift the world a little at a time with every witness of every play I write. I strive for imagery that grows with them and dialogue that’s subverting beats in ways that shake reality. I’m doing this as quietly as possible and I’m doing it for myself; because I can and because I can’t stop. I want the world to see a story on foreign land until they recognize their own.

All I do in theater is centered on my ability to listen. Having no access to College, my education was re-watching as many performances of interesting plays as I could usher for. My education was helping out at workshops and readings and staying behind people's eyes. When I listen, I become a mirror. It's my heightened ability. I write plays so everybody entering my worlds can tap into their hidden abilities. We need to harness them and recognize reality for what it is; evolutionary. Reality is continually evolving. Every thought is an opportunity to shift it. More than anything I believe in the power of community and that every encounter is an opportunity for true siblinghood, for real love, for impact and revolution. I know the missions and values of my community are congruent with what I hold as a teacher, mentor, and creator. I work with people who believe in radical empathy; in creating bridges and paving the way for historically unsupported conversational ability. Every day, I strive to give space for people to create a movement, to hold the humanity of others, to meet young power and ancient power and have the space to cultivate our lived experiences.
