I write plays for and about young people. My background in counseling and work with children had a profound effect on me as a playwright and ultimately shapes the stories I want to tell. I am interested in exploring the struggle of characters deemed unusual or different by their community. They search for themselves in societies in which they may be rigidly defined. Their struggles may ultimately make them heroes. Themes in my plays include: disabilities, overcoming violence and those who are shunned from or pushed out of a community, whether that community is in a school, religious center or family
