I am obsessed by the Expressionist artist, Paula Modersohn Becker. In this obsession, I've delved into her life and works and written about these (many poems and my play "Paula 101"). Some of the questions in my writing: What makes a person creative? Are crazy and creative connected? Why are our brains different? Do our memories define us? Do our families? I love dark farce (Caryl Churchill! Joe Orton!) and family drama (Wendy Wasserstein!). I’m not fond of shouty plays (unless the play is "On Clover Road" by Steven Dietz). My plays trend toward intimate relationship stories with comedic or tragic turns. Several of my scripts feature animal characters and several others feature characters that may be played by adults of any age or gender. Among my favorite play-writing experiences have been Infinity Box Theatre's Centrifuge science play festivals for which each playwright must create a 10-minute script in a couple of days, and the productions go up at the end of that week.
