  • URGE FOR GOING
    18 Dec. 2017
I saw the production at Golden Thread (San Francisco). Many young people, myself once included, long to leave home. This play amplified this with the reality of life in the Middle East, the claustrophobia of the living situation, and the clash of attitudes and sympathies in such a small space. Funny, touching, and highly recommended.
  • The Four Immigrants: An American Musical Manga
    18 Dec. 2017
I saw the production at TheatreWorks (Palo Alto). As someone who has also read the source manga, this was a successful and enjoyable adaptation, both the story and the original music, some of which leaps into my head as I write this a few months later, always a good sign.
  • The Great Leap
    18 Dec. 2017
(Updated March 2019) I saw a production of this at American Conservatory Theatre (San Francisco) and was drawn in by its refusal to make its very real characters "Model Minorities," its sense of history and its balance of humor and seriousness.
  • Love in the Time of Zombies
    18 Dec. 2017
I saw a workshop of this at San Francisco Theatre Pub. It's insanely funny and ultimately touching. I'd love to see a full production of this.
  • Thunder Above, Deeps Below
    26 Jul. 2017
I saw this at Bindlestiff in San Francisco. It's an engrossing, dark tale with fascinating characters, and I appreciated the risks the playwright took. I had a great time watching it and would love to see it again.
  • Scripted (a ten minute play)
    9 Aug. 2015
A sweet play about being willing to change your life. Lots of fun and very meta-theatrical.
  • The Snowflake Theory
    8 Aug. 2015
This is a fun play with a crazy cast of characters, a Jewish play for the present day when we decide for ourselves what it means to be Jewish, and what it means to parent or fall in love.
  • THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR
    8 Aug. 2015
OMG, I want to see this play. Lots of conflict, laughs, and love. Wonderful twists and turns illustrating the complexity of the human animal and the messiness of relationships, especially sexual ones. The dialog and subtext consistently jump off the page. Lots of deliciously awkward moments for actors to sink their teeth into. It kept me entertained throughout.
  • ENEMIES: Foreign and Domestic
    30 Jul. 2015
I saw this in production at Central Works theatre. This is an engrossing, sad, darkly funny work that kept me captivated. Lots of delicious 'ouch' moments as the family members tread over each other and the mother's caretaker, who is not shy about treading back.
  • The Dragon Play
    23 Jan. 2015
I too saw this at Impact. I'll add to Valerie's recommendation that this play is thoroughly and intensely theatrical. While it's a drama, there is a lot of humor to it. And the final reveal is both surprising and inevitable.
