  • THE SPRINGVALE ARMADILLO
    18 Oct. 2020
The Springvale Armadillo is a beautiful and emotional play. I was pulled into the world of the characters right from the first moments, with the opening soundscape evoking a traumatic past that demanded answers. As the answers were slowly revealed by the rich conversations of a remarkable elderly woman and a young and sensitive man desperate for a guide, I felt moved by the stories of each, and the support and friendship that grew between them. A captivating story beautifully rendered!
  • NELL DASH, The Gruesomely Merry Adventures Of An Irrepressibly Sensible Capitalist With A Vengeance
    16 Oct. 2020
Nell Dash is a riotous and irreverent hoot from start to finish. Re-imagining some of the best known characters of 19th century and weaving them into an action packed and enormously witty romp, Doug De Vita has laid the ground work for skilled actors to make merry from the get go and leave the audience wracked with laughter. Improbable events, larger than life characters and a cracking pace will delight people from eight to eighty, and the 'pearls' of literary allusions along the way just add to the fun.
  • Bandera, Texas
    10 Oct. 2020
Bandera, Texas is a heart warming and delightful play. A young and pregnant woman uprooted from her beloved NYC by her husband's a job is utterly unsure of how to approach a new life. The down to earth arrival of her grandmother's ghosts, both witty and wise in their very different ways, allows her to gain some perspective into her own marriage and pathways forward into the next stage of her life. The play explores the complexity of life choices, marriage and families, but always maintains a light and humorous touch, charming the reader at every turn.
  • Micronation
    28 Sep. 2020
I read this once, went away and thought it over, and read it again, intrigued. Micronation offers zany humour and a unique premise, but also packs a punch in the issues it raises. In a short space of time we are forced to consider differently how people respond to the laws of the land: by playing with the rules, or subverting, or opportunistically working around them for personal gain. It's an entertaining and extremely clever short play - highly recommend!
  • Tiny Empty Nest
    25 Sep. 2020
I really enjoyed reading Tiny Empty Nest, laughing out loud often. Would love to see it live, as the set itself develops around the couple, almost playing a part in the changes within their relationship. The dialogue is snappy, the portrait of a marriage needing re-inventing believable, and the really original concept of the tiny house very original. I also really like the potential for flexibility in casting in which many characters can be played by 3 actors, or, for a community company looking for opportunities for actors, many more.
  • A MAN WALKS INTO A BAR [10-Minute Play]
    16 Sep. 2020
I really enjoyed this play. The playwright gripped me from the first few lines with developing tension between two apparent strangers. Humour and sadness are both revealed as the play unfolds. Clever positioning of the audience to be able to guess more than one of the characters so we can see him squirm as his memory of a forgotten encounter slowly and uncomfortably surfaces. Would love to see this live!
