  • Rachael Carnes: Oh, Honey!

A lovely exploration of two characters on the precipice of change: Sisters Katie and Anna's intense emotions spill out with authenticity and humor, in this rich, rewarding two-hander. Great physicality and stage business - and an arsenal of approaches for actors to throw at each other - would make this a fascinating play to work on, and a rewarding piece to see.

  • Rachael Carnes: The Invitation

Oh, my heart! A wonderful example of how energetically-charged a monologue can (and should) be. Lamedman's character speaks with courage and conviction, diving into thorny realities with all the spirit one can muster, and saying so much in just a couple of pages. A terrific vehicle for an actor to show their range.

  • Rachael Carnes: An Expansion

A beautiful, prescient piece, resonant in these uncertain times, yet evergreen in its exploration of connection. Visually stunning, with lovely physicality and room for imaginative theatrical invention, this play balances head and heart with aplomb.

  • Rachael Carnes: Reckoning

A seemingly tiny play - one minute long, maybe two - can be enormous in theme and dynamic scope. This is a great example, with characters that crystallize into multi-dimensions, compelling backstory suggested with just a hint, and deep emotional investment, all in a couple of pages. Wonderful work!

  • Rachael Carnes: Dry Spell

Bracing for a heatwave and feeling the impending combustion smoldering within a broken relationship, these characters bristle with internal and external conflict. Suarez-Pena's dynamic dialogue slings projectiles back and forth, while underneath, pain simmers like heat trapped in the atmosphere. A brilliant short play, one that would be a rich place for a creative team to explore.

  • Rachael Carnes: Does A Bird Dream of Flight?

Oh my word! I got lost in the dreamscape of this gorgeous play. Relevant, timeless - With dialogue that darts between gut punches and poetry. A terrific tête-a-tête for two actors, with limitless creative potential for design and direction.

  • Rachael Carnes: THE UNDERSTUDY

If you miss in-person theatre, that's slowly reemerging, but it's been a minute, or if you bemoan the fact that there are only three seasons of "Slings & Arrows" - this monologue about the missed opportunities and misadventures of The Stage will be balm for the soul. "Malcom" has been sidelined, literally his whole career. What does it do to a person to always play second fiddle, yet be required to show up? Although this is is about theatre, of course the subtext is deeper and darker, asking us to reflect on the choices we make.

  • Rachael Carnes: Mementos (3-5 Minute Play)

Evocative and visual, Speckman's short play packs a wallop in its few pages. What are we, besides our accumulations? These characters' immediate sympathy and their relatable predicament - reflecting on the past and accounting for the present - will force critical reflection of our consumer-driven society, and the roles defined for women, and how they play an integral part in the drivers of capitalism. Powerful stuff!

  • Rachael Carnes: Hey

A gorgeous slice of life long-gone. Today, "Wade" has the world in his phone, which may provide a breadcrumb trail to the future to pathways he might follow, or role models, videos, ideas, images, community, even. Not so much in 1982. Heck -- 1982, even MTV is in its infancy, and not everyone had it as part of their cable. (If they had cable.) This play waxes beautifully, is as strong on the page as any piece of poetry, yet beats with a sensitive, emotional heart. Stunning work.

  • Rachael Carnes: Fairy Penguins Unite!

An environmental allegory has never been CUTER. Penguins?! Sign me up to see this heartfelt, funny play, with an inspiring and important message. Lawing's witty dialogue creates a wonderful ensemble, and I can only imagine the fun that actors will have as they embody our flightless friends. Amazing opportunities for costuming, as well.
