  • Ruben Carbajal: Don't Wear it Out

Turning old wives' tales into reality is the ingenious hook that Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn uses to a wonderfully funny and theatrical effect, creating a horror-comedy short that would be a blast for young actors to explore.

  • Ruben Carbajal: Stranger Danger

Abundantly charming, Annie Wood's warmly funny short hits all of its marks. I loved how the ending opens up, and I had fun pondering what kind of adventure followed.

  • Ruben Carbajal: A Small Victory (One-minute play)

In the space of a page, Georgia Xanthopoulou creates a vast, spacious emotional moment that mirrors its oceanic setting. Time falls away, and in its place is a profound longing, perhaps even a respite, for these two lost souls--a striking and show-stopping one-minute play.

  • Ruben Carbajal: 37 Origami Bees

A whole lot of fun. Brilliantly-paced dialogue, laugh-out-loud moments aplenty, and one of those scripts that makes me wish I was still brave enough to act. A clear audience-pleaser that theatre companies everywhere should seriously consider. It deserves all the NPX recommendations and productions. Top notch!

  • Ruben Carbajal: Satan v. The Indiana Abortion Ban

Harnessing comedy out of the subject of abortion rights is no simple feat. But Leah Roth Barsanti makes it look effortless in this rollicking and masterful piece. It's filled with plenty of deft character flourishes that give actors plenty to dig into. Barsanti's ability to move beyond broad strokes and deliver nuanced satirical punches with a premise so wild is something to behold. Deserves all the productions!

  • Ruben Carbajal: They're In There

If you're a fan of horror and The Twilight Zone like I am, you'll definitely love this taught, fraught, and unsettling short. I'll admit I didn't see the twist coming, which is high praise indeed. Absolutely perfect for a Halloween festival of ten-minute plays. A fine example of how thrilling stage plays can be!

  • Ruben Carbajal: Spread the Word (a MONOLOGUE from "Take One, Leave One")

A moving monologue about the sacredness, durability, and simple love of books: Virginia's grief and passion for the written world are palpable. I was cheering for her resolute spirit. Excellent monologue!

  • Ruben Carbajal: LEIGHTON: A MONOLOGUE FOR A FIFTH GRADER

Leighton is a perfectly charming kid, the victim of his less-than-charming country, with systems that increasingly lack the empathy and kindness that Leighton exudes without effort. A truly heartbreaking monologue reflecting a reality that's become all too common in America.

  • Ruben Carbajal: FOLD [A 1-MINUTE PLAY]

A lifetime of love and loss is expressed delicately and deeply in this brief but compelling moment. How much do we hold on to, and what will we lose if we let too much go? Martin excels at creating memorable and exquisitely drawn characters with minimal brushstrokes.

  • Ruben Carbajal: Lithos (One-minute play)

There's a lovely expansiveness and poetry to this very short play that ponders our deep but fleeting connection to things that will exist far beyond our brief time here. Like all the best one-minute plays, it ends quickly, but stays with you.
