  • Paul Smith: On Top

The fact that this fascinating short play is set in a grocery store adds so much to the atmosphere. A highly personal look at infidelity (or is it?) played out in public. Two sides of a relationship coin are examined by John Patrick Bray in a clever two-hander which could certainly start a very interesting debate! Well worth reading and even better to see performed.

  • Paul Smith: I Invited Your Mother for Thanksgiving

This is a really lovely short play, where the importance of family is the abiding theme. Family disharmony can never eradicate the fact that, despite disagreements and fall-outs, family is still family. We sometimes struggle to make-up, we are stubborn. No one wants to be the first to give in. Sometimes a mediator is needed and here it is done out of love. Donald E Baker's play is steeped in love and realism. Super writing.

  • Paul Smith: Zoom

There can't be many people who won't appreciate this smart piece of writing. So many of us have had a relationship with Zoom - some more than others, some have been tied to Zoom and the relationship has become (almost) real. There is, of course, something creepy about the Zoom character in the play - something Orwellian almost. But there is signs of hope - for everyone who has been caught in a rather unwanted relationship like this. Joe Nelms has created a cracking little piece of observational theatre. Love it.

  • Paul Smith: The Damage

This is a highly topical, disturbing morality play showing how actions of the past have major consequences. In 10 short minutes Jacob Devine cleverly sets a scene of confrontation, of revenge, of justice in a world of the power-crazed who have never abided by the rule of law - until it comes back to bite them. Uncompromising and direct - this is a smart piece of writing.

  • Paul Smith: Pronouns

A can of worms is opened here, this could be seen as a very serious piece of realistic modern social commentary, a satirical take on attitudes to gender or an attack on out-dated generational attitudes. The confusion facing Dolores and George is self-evident and Larry Rinkel takes the gauntlet and runs with it in this ideal example of a subject matter which makes some laugh and some angry! Love it.

  • Paul Smith: One Last Stroke

Overwhelmed by reading these words. I can feel every emotion within Christopher Plumbridge's beautiful eulogy. As a fellow pet owner, the loss of such amazing companions is the most heart-breaking of experiences. Within the space of two minutes one is left with an abundance of emotions. This is difficult to read, but writing of this calibre needs to be heard.

  • Paul Smith: The Vengeful Road

Whooooaaa - this is unsettling, unpleasant and riveting. Rachel Feeny-Williams takes on a tough subject and turns it into a very effective morality tale. A seemingly ordinary story veers off into a very dark area and will shock an audience - tight and provocative writing!

  • Paul Smith: Thank You for Calling

This is very funny - I found myself giggling after only a short time and it continued to the end; Timothy Henderson Jr has a very good sense of humour! Quirky, slightly bonkers but huge fun

  • Paul Smith: KING CHARLES THE FIRST

This is a bonkers send-up of the relationship between King Charles I and Oliver Cromwell. David Davila has crafted a very funny take on monarchy and the rule of law - punctuated by innuendo and outrage - it is not difficult to see certain parallels in recent times (not necessarily in Britain!) A really fun satire.

  • Paul Smith: Missing: Dick and Jane

A cracking little play from Lee R Lawing who takes a horror genre and turns it on its head. Clever, innovative and highly amusing. Lovely observational moments and a hugely fun piece to put in front of an audience! Great stuff!
