A geothermal pool in Iceland is an intriguing setting ripe for mystery and a little mysticism. The characters -- one American, one Icelandic -- are unique and human. I’m left wondering at the end of this brief play about how Ella will be transformed by this encounter and whether she will be able to make that necessary leap into the unknown.

An absurdist 10-minute fable with great possibilities for staging with a minimalist set -- so much is created in our mind’s eye through the dialog. I can imagine a small troupe of actors having a blast with this, and the audience responding in kind. Highly recommended.

The moment captured here is powerful, dramatic, and written with great compassion. The production I saw was emotionally searing. A strong piece for two actors; and a sad but necessary commentary on our time.

Another terrific 10-minute play from Carnes. The comic dialog just barrels along, and the creative opportunities for staging seem tremendous. And what a fine, funny, absurd relationship!
  • COASTER
    22 Feb. 2020
Maria doesn’t like roller coasters. Paul has commitment issues. What to do? Take the ride of your life, of course -- complete with screaming, corkscrew turns and dizzying drops.
  • Batman Vs. The Joker at the Laundromat
    22 Feb. 2020
This little comedic gem is such fun to read. If you’ve ever enjoyed the Dynamic Duo (and even if you haven’t), you’ll enjoy the snarky banter between Batman, Robin and the Joker over their laundry issues. Who ever knew the bros had such feelings?
  • American Love
    21 Feb. 2020
The English language is sadly impoverished when it comes to words for love -- as Tara, our narrator explains in this short, sweet little 10-minute play about love -- without fireworks, but with quite a bit of heart.

Unusual characters and setting (a solar observatory), good dialog, and I did NOT see that end coming. A selection at the Seattle Playwrights Salon reading series, and finalist for the Tennessee Williams Festival.
  • A Spirited Manor - A Victorian Penny Dreadful
    27 Jan. 2020
A SPIRITED MANOR is a smart, spooky Victorian thriller with a bunch of great character roles and a wonderfully imaginative approach to staging. Part whodunnit, part romance, part Gothic horror, just as you start to get comfortable all the pieces rearrange and the plot takes you in another unexpected direction. Lots of shivers and lots of fun!
  • Interview With Superman
    16 Jan. 2020
What would make Superman stop doing super deeds, and force him into living in a cheap motel and working construction? The answer is here in this quirky 10-minute play. The dialog is tight and funny, the setting just a little on the seamy side. A great little piece of writing.
