  • Emily Hageman: 49 Years and a Glass of Chardonnay

A beautiful little ten minute play with a lovely format. Both characters are so wonderful and lovely, you can't help but adore them and feel sorry for them and want to be their best friends within minutes of "meeting" them on the page. They are both so beautifully relateable. Actresses will love this play, audiences will love this play, everyone will love this play--it's sweet and simply irresistible.

  • Emily Hageman: SUMMER (CONCENTRATION) CAMP COLORING CLUB

I wish that I could say without a doubt in my mind that no, no this is not happening in our country. It's far too cruel, far too terrible, far too ugly, but with everything that's happening, well, I can't say that. In fact, I fear that this is happening. Wyndham has taken some of my worst fears and scrawled them across the paper. There is a lot happening in this play--the childishness, the callous cruelty, the ugliness of these people. I wish with all my heart that this play didn't feel as real as it does.

  • Emily Hageman: Crashing Through Kauai

"Crashing Through Kauai" is full of luscious language, vivid imagery, and a twist at the end that is gutting and magical. Lawing handles all of it with the utmost care, painting characters who are sweet and earnest and funny. This play is ethereal and strange, but fascinating and deftly crafted. Lawing has captured a moment in time in the palm of his hands and given it to us--and it's incredibly beautiful.

  • Emily Hageman: My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean

Fantastic play. I am so delighted by how much Ward is able to cover in the short pages of this play. There is humor and life and determination and fear and such beauty in this script. And what incredibly cool structure--and the swimming on stage! Absolutely fantastic. I would love to see this in a much longer play--what a fantastic, inspiring story written with such beauty and care. Well done, Ward!

  • Emily Hageman: Paradise

An ASTONISHINGLY beautiful play. I am swept away this story, the language, the characters, the themes... this is an absolutely gorgeous two-hander that whispers when it could shout. The two characters are so incredibly alive and wonderful, their dialogue sparkles with subtext and wit and charm, and the end is absolutely stunning. If you are looking for a play that meets at the perfect intersection of heart and science, look here. Actually, if you are just looking for a wonderful, truly beautiful play, look here. This play will stay with me for some time, I am sure.

  • Emily Hageman: KIKI PINEAPPLE STARRING IN: "SAVING THE WORLD!"

This is the most wonderful, sweet play. Martin has such a big heart and it shines through in every play that he writes. What a perfectly crafted script for elementary kids. Without a doubt, my favorite exchange in the whole play is "Am I weird?" with the prompt answer "Yes." This is a perfect play for elementary kiddos--it allows them to play their age and to tell a meaningful story with a meaningful heart in the center. Just pure joy, so beautiful, and crafted with such love and respect. Thank you for your work, Martin.

  • Emily Hageman: Talking Points

Absolutely adorable. Hayet has won my heart over with this precious little play. There is so much love and sweetness in this play and if you read it (or see it) and don't immediately go, "awww," then I am sorry to inform you that you are broken. The whole play is sweet and funny and quirky, but what's really special about it is Grandma's speech at the end--which is simply one of the loveliest speeches I've ever read in a play. Funny and economical, this is a delightful ten minute play that would be great for any festival.

  • Emily Hageman: Fabulous Monsters

WOW, I love this play! It's dynamic and smart and biting and rock and roll from the beginning to the end. The characters are absolutely to die for--you can't get enough of the flawed and self-conscious Slade, the sensual and funny Luisa, the sharp and conniving Kady, the luscious and gross Nigel. The characters jump off the page and demand to be heard. This is a excellently crafted play that is ready to hit the stage. Seeing it would be a rush and a delight. Produce it now and play it near me!

  • Emily Hageman: Just Desserts

This is an absolute gem of a play. As dark as the dark chocolate used to make the brownies in question. The play is really well-written and the characters are fantastic, any actor would have a heyday with any of the roles. But what I love about this play is it says a ton about morality in its short ten pages. And man, now that I think about it, MacGregor is right--the people who steal people's lunches are probably some of the worst people alive. Great ten minute play, gulp it down right now if you got a few minutes!

  • Emily Hageman: PARTNER OF —

This is an extremely powerful play. The structure is phenomenal, the language is gorgeous, the characters--the whole play leaves a desperate ache in my chest. The fact that this play is still pertinent NOW is what really chills me. Carnes is respectful, but she is unafraid--and the light that she shines on the underbelly of our history and our CURRENT society is blinding and condemning. We need more plays like this. I see a long production history for this powerful play. I hope universities and companies get their hands on it and put it on its feet.
