Artistic Statement

As a child, I never wanted to grow up and stop pretending. I loved putting on plays in the garage or spending hours upon hours with my Barbies as they encountered every dream I dared to imagine. Then one night in the 6th grade, I clearly remember lying in bed and telling God how I never wanted to stop being able to pretend, even as I grew up. Soon after that, I developed a love of writing. I wrote poems and short stories. Then in high school, I became involved in theatre. My junior and senior year, we advanced to State with our One-Act plays. So, after graduating, I decided to write a play. Surprisingly enough, it won first place in a competition! So now, it all made sense to me. Writing plays is what I was meant to do. And I truly believe, with all my heart, that writing plays is a gift from God so I would never have to stop pretending.
