Artistic Statement

I am pursuing playwrighting late in my career. I have mostly directed and taught theatre since the early 1980s. Occasionally, I have helped to devise a play (as a director) or worked to adapt/translate older plays for companies I was associated with. Then about four years ago the Equity theatre I managed in Scranton, Pennsylvania suffered a recessionary demise, and being rather trapped in Scranton, I decided to turn my energies toward writing. I have learned a lot. I have organized my own table readings, imposing on the kind hearts of the many actors I know. There have been numerous readings and discussions in New York -- and recently some in DC organized by a director at the Forum Theatre -- and it has been glorious. So, in spite of my having recently endured my sixty-sixth birthday, I feel like a pup when it comes to writing, and that is just fine with me. Currently, I am in residence in Orvieto, Italy, devoting the majority of my evenings to working on several scripts in progress. In fact, all of my scripts are works-in-progress until they have had a professional production AND have been published, then they become scripts that can still be edited, I suppose. So, what I have posted is not set in stone. If something appeals to you as a script you might want to workshop, contact me, let us talk.
