Artistic Statement

I tell women stories. I want to bring to the stage plays about women, plays about you or your friend or your mother or your sister or your aunt or your grandma. Real stories, well, real in my imagination, real in my heart. Right now, I am writing plays about women who are navigating the complexities of simply walking forward. The sister/daughter coming home with a dead plant and a suitcase, the mother of two sisters having a nervous breakdown, the sisters-in-law who hate each other, and a hungover college student who can't find her underwear and she is bleeding, bruised, terrified.

I have written four full length plays and several short plays. I am researching my next play about two real-life, amazing women who were activists, artists and lovers. I write plays about women, for women, for all to know women. I truly believe if we want more plays that give voice to women, we need more women producers, women directors but, most importantly, women writers. In order for me to be a sister in that struggle to have equal representation on the stages of the world, I write plays.
