  • Oh, No! I Flew Too Close to the Sun!
    10 Dec. 2018
I saw this play at Edmunds Driftwood Players last year - It was clearly the audience favorite, and I am not one bit surprised to see it continue to "take flight."
  • THE NAMES
    14 Sep. 2018
Atmospheric and intriguing. A surprising and poignant play, forcing the audience to ponder a deal-with-the-devil choice that forever defines the protagonist. Such a simple gesture takes on a powerful emotional heft in the most affecting moment, when the protagonist utters, “It’s not collaborating, it’s only singing”. It's been a while since a script has put me so much in the head of the protagonist.

I never would have thought I'd be so enticed by a play heavily focused on Civil War Reenactments. This is a humane and thought provoking look at the past and present of the deep south. The racism inflicted is not heavy handed or obvious, but dolled out in all-the-more frightening sincerity. This is production ready, and I sincerely hope to see it onstage soon.
  • What Happened That Night
    1 Aug. 2018
I've been a long time admirer of Lia Romeo's comedies - This is a powerful step in the opposite direction. This is a timely, provocative, morally complex tale with nuanced teenage characters. The young characters are complex, their dialogue distinctive, and the consequences their choices realistic and harrowing.

I saw this play in Seattle a while back, and found it funny, bittersweet, and utterly unique. It was a very satisfying antithesis to the standard "Wedding Play". I very much look forward to seeing this again.
  • Breaking the Shakespeare Code
    10 Jul. 2018
I had the pleasure of reading this script during it's workshop at the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and reread it again just recently. It is a uniquely structured brain-tease, an intriguing character study between pupil and teacher, and above all, a love letter to Shakespeare. It manages to feel intimate in production, yet epic in it's ability to portray the enormity of the relationship between the 2 characters. Bravo!

Matt has crafted a shocking and provocative script about what cost people could/should pay in the name of preserving humanity. I attended a reading of this play, and remember the faces of the audience divided between horror and laughter. This play is a spiral staircase into delightful insanity. As always, Matt doesn't shy away from exploring the most challenging ideas - Read this script, I highly recommend it.
  • When We Get Good Again (formerly, Good)
    9 Jul. 2018
I saw this play in a workshop at the Landing Theatre in Texas, and just enjoyed rereading it. McLindon's script delves into the moral complexity of the choices 4 characters make in pursuit of university success. One of the treats of this script is the richness of its' unique and affable characters. In fact, I didn't realize how much I truly cared about the characters until they were put into peril. It's a thought provoking play, with some very funny and touching moments. Highly recommended.
  • Transfiguration
    31 May. 2018
One of the most atmospheric plays I have encountered in a long while. A personification of mental illness, Jordan's voice echoes the horror and beauty of Sarah Kane. A director and designer would have a blast taking on this ambitious, harrowing script.
  • Calumnies

I absolutely love this script. The ensemble is rich and nuanced, but the doubtless gem is Olivia. Ellen has created a female lead who is strong, deftly defined, and relatable for both her faults and virtues. An actress would consider themselves lucky to take on this role. The atmosphere of the play is intriguing, exciting, and ominous, and though it is based in history, it avoids the pitfalls of a genre that can easily become dry. I truly look forward to seeing this play onstage.
