Artistic Statement

I write plays about the universal truths of everyday life. Through the exploration of familiar moments—falling in (and out of) love, the death of a loved one, an act of violence, the slow decline of age—my work seeks to offer a new perspective, question the conventional, provide comfort, allow us to laugh and, most of all, ask us to look inward rather than outward because that’s how we start changing the world.
The decisions we make and the challenges we experience, regardless of size and scope, may feel momentous or insurmountable to us personally but there’s a recognition and, often, a comfort in knowing that countless others have been there before us or soon will be. At some point, we all stand on common ground before we’re buried in it.
Through writing about shared experiences of universality and connection, I am creating a body of work that reminds an audience that while we’re all on the same journey, how we each chart our own course and who we invite along are what make it interesting.
