Artistic Statement

When a group of people come together for a shared experience, magic is possible. A church service. A garden wedding. A hospital vigil. A night at the theater.

Theater is a means through which we redeem ourselves, live vicariously, forgive each other, reach beyond our limited frameworks, and connect. I think that connection is so important going forward especially, in a post-Covid world, when we might be as nervous as we are eager to get out of our tiny chosen worlds, our little screens. If the intention to get closed-off and tribal reflects an underlying fear, then the very notion of theater is one of bravery. We are willing to write and read new experiences and characters, create worlds, and invite others to join us on the journey.

In my plays I seek to show how we are all made better by these journeys, and how valuable is the act of connection to each other. The act of writing plays, is, for me, a pathway to hope.
