Rob Cardazone is a prolific writer whose work juxtaposes darkness with hope and grace to stirring effect. The tone of his work spans from Contemporary Realism, to a mix of Fabulist and Magic Realism, and always has a helping of humor. Write what you know? Always listening to his gut, Cardazone began writing what he didn’t know, yet was intrigued by. Ever evolving, today his plays are uncomfortably close to home. His work evinces a reverence for the everyday person—the person who hopes. He digs deep into the hearts of these people who don’t believe they have the skills to persevere: the lonely, the underdog, and the marginalized, who all have one thing in common: They yearn for more. His play Go Gently Forward begins with “My name is Gus. I drive a bus. All day long I ride around with a sign over my head that says, ‘Limited’.” Dreamers Often Lie ends with, “Will it ever be possible?” His plays, and more so his characters, struggle tirelessly toward forgiveness, hope and finally grace.
