  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: A Whole World Away In Iran (a monologue)

This is a hard, harsh monologue and one you can understand. It's about the death of two humans who dared to love each other. The last paragraph is (as they say) worth the price of admission. Read it and say their names.

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: DO OVER - a 30 minute drama for four characters

This play was workshopped in our playwriting group and it was a pleasure to watch it grow to the present edition. A painful discovery of the death of a young man leads us to the Do Drop Inn, a kind of way station for the soul. The dialogue is natural and the through line of the play very clear. This is a lyrical piece of writing for a cast of four.

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: Just Breathe

Cole is such a relatable character. The audience will find him endearing. It's a struggle to get passed whatever disability one has, and Cole and his mother are working on it. An interesting two hander about two people trying to understand his disability.

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: The Bean Thing

I didn't know what to expect with The Bean Thing, but it turned out to be a great two-hander about meeting a potential partner and having it work out. This short piece would be great for a couple of any age. Now I wish I had the recipe!

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: How to Build a Table

Bathke's two hander is a lovely memory piece about a father and son. ( I remember my boys working with their Dad). Partially spoken as direct address to the audience and partially talking with his father, this piece will speak to anyone who has grown up with parents who took the time to be with their children.

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: The Ultimate Christmas Question

A blind date starts it all...can these two people agree on which Christmas movie to watch or not? The final solution was unexpected and fun. A great two-hander for any age couple. Take a listen to it and an interview with Rachel Feeny-Williams on Gather By The Ghost Light podcast episode 42 (available wherever you get your podcasts.)

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: Selfish

I have never felt that low, but man you can sense Jaye's pain from the top of this moving monologue. She doesn't want to inconvenience anyone if she should take the final step. She must be a nice person to worry about that. I hope someone sees and understands that soon and offers her some hope.

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: Not Exactly a Lullaby (a monologue) (Playing on the Periphery #4)

My heart began to hurt when I read this monologue. As written, you can feel the pain in Robert...not understanding what and why he did something. And the aftermath, when nothing can be done about it, continues the hurt. I hope Mom was not really sleeping as Robert needs her love and understanding.

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: Talking Points

This sounds like some Thanksgiving dinners I've attended. Very real and fun. And I too, loved Grandma. She speaks the truth.

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: Isobel

I kind of knew what was coming in this monologue, but I kept reading hoping to find out I was wrong. I wasn't. Dear Olly tells a tale about being larger and stronger than most boys his age, which leads to a tragic conclusion. A very touching monologue.
