I cannot say enough great things about this play. Deneen's work takes us on a walk down memory lane that shows the love between two Black women as they try and live their lives at a PWI. Themes of class, and new love in a sunless city, renders rays of light and joy during dark days.

  • Nikki Brake-Silla: it's not a trip it's a journey

During the Chautauqua Theater Company reading I was moved to tears by this work that dealt with the love amongst Black women and our friendships. How a road trip can bring to light all the things that you try and hide when you don't have anything other than time and a long stretch of road. This piece is heartfelt and full of heart and deftly handles trauma in a way that I found cleansing and healing.

  • Nikki Brake-Silla: I Wanna Fuck like Romeo and Juliet

I had the privilege of hearing this play on Parsnip Ship and was captivated by a world filled with queer people of color whose love is normalized. Andrew has crafted a story that made me laugh and cry and ache. I cannot wait to see this on stage and know the world is a more beautiful place because of the stories that Andrew is creating.

  • Nikki Brake-Silla: MinorityLand

This play grabs you from the first moment and takes you on an incredible journey that is filled with laughter and heartbreak. MINORITYLAND deftly tells the story of the impact of gentrification from the voices of those it affects most. It shows how hard it is when the "family" of the neighborhood is forced to leave but how you can make new family. There's no right answer to this problem but Erlina has given it breathe and a voice. Bravo!

  • "Archipelago" is a moving play about grief, loneliness and addiction. Amy has penned characters whose beauty lies within their flaws. I thoroughly enjoyed this during the PlayPenn Development Conference.

  • Nikki Brake-Silla: Click

Click is a daring and gut wrenching piece that is so PRESENT! It deals with difficult subject matter with grace and empathy.

  • Nikki Brake-Silla: Babel

Nature vs. Nurture. What does a future look like when chance is eliminated. In a world free of preexisting conditions, is there art, scientific discovery, music or dance? Babel is a poignant work that leaves you pondering these questions and thankful that this is not our future but fearful because the writing is on the walls.

  • Nikki Brake-Silla: Esther Choi and the Fish that Drowned

What a wonderful play that deals with friendship, loneliness and familial isolation.

  • Nikki Brake-Silla: HOMERIDAE

I had the pleasure of attending this reading. Alexandra has a talent for weaving nuanced story with biting humor. HOMERIDAE asks, “Which ancient cultures merit academic attention?” She illustrates how those with power control the narrative but by questioning, shows how we can usurp the balance and tip the scale.

  • Nikki Brake-Silla: A Lynching Play for Today (Working Title)

A searing work that highlights the tension between a mother and daughter and the fallacy of respectability politics.
