Artistic Statement

Being a black woman from the Bronx by way of the island of Jamaica, I rarely see authentic, multi-dimensional representations of myself not only on stage, but also behind the curtain. Though I never want my cultural and racial background to pigeonhole me, I proudly and unapologetically advocate for black, female representation in theatre. Yet, with all the cultural, socio-economic, and ideological differences that exist, theatre offers the opportunity to bridge the gap by illustrating that the universal truths of human existence apply to all. I write what I know, but also what I want to learn. Larger than that, I feel it is my designated mission to ask difficult questions, shed light, teach tough lessons, and entertain from a truthful place.
