Artistic Statement

Every play I write comes from the belief that art in general, but theatre perhaps most of all, has the power to transform: from heartache to wholeness, isolation to community, loss to understanding. For a few hours, audience and performers breathe as one, creating a symbiotic experience that will never be repeated. We celebrate and grieve together, all of us seeking to understand the human condition as fully as possible. Then, if the play has done its job, we emerge from the theatre, changed. And we go our separate ways. Truly miraculous.

I believe that good theatre should either entertain, educate, or enlighten, and that the best theatre does all three. It's what I strive for, every time I sit down to write. I want audience members to laugh, think, and walk away from the production with a new light of understanding -- even just a tiny one -- for themselves and the world beyond.
