  • Nora Louise Syran: THE ARIA OF JULIE D'AUBIGNY, the cross-dressing, sword-fighting, opera singer, wherein she seduces men and women alike, wins numerous duels, must be twice pardoned by the King, and eventually finds true love.

A "duelist [who has] never lost a duel. A lover ever attentive to [her] beloved [who has] hidden these features within the uncut gem of [her] wild and reckless behavior." A brilliant historical figure brought to life by Monica Cross in a fast-paced, action-filled, easy to stage historical romance. Well done!

  • Nora Louise Syran: Fable

From a conversation with June Havoc, DeVita crafts this "fable" which even neophytes to the musical "Gypsy" will appreciate; instead of wanting to see "Fable" because they know "Gypsy", they will want to to see "Gypsy" because of DeVita's marvelously painful, witty and human creation. What a spectacle! DeVita's love of the theatre is palpable. Strong roles for women and much for an audience to reflect upon as they leave the theatre. What more can we ask of theatre? Bravo!

  • Nora Louise Syran: THE TIME IS OUT OF JOINT

Love it! This short play captures the ephemerality of the theatre and its magic. Theatrical, quirky--with some great allusions to the classics: "I was taking notes at Doctor Faustus recently, and towards the end he said he had but one hour left and it most certainly didn't take an hour for the demons to drag his soul to hell." Great fun!

  • Nora Louise Syran: All Roads Lead To Rome?

"It’s a tour of Italy with… 63 year-old baggage"! Fun, light-hearted and yet full of wisdom. McClain's short play does not solve the bigotry in the world, but reminds us that sometimes we need to put the world's problems behind us, on the back seat, and take a holiday. See the leaning tower of Pisa by Vespa!

  • Nora Louise Syran: A Crooked French Affair

"Drama is all about conflict" and Kim E Ruyle's comedy serves it up on a plate with "panache"! It will bring much "ah penis” ! Great fun!

  • Nora Louise Syran: To Fetch a Pail of Water

Oh, plain silly fun! I love plays based on fairy tales and this one is adorable. Witty and physically hilarious. Favorite line: "You have a rhyming problem! Fortunately, I was an English major, so I can help you with this" !

  • Nora Louise Syran: Bread and Brie

Great fun! A fast-paced comedy with a satisfying and hysterical ending. Great fun to watch and perhaps even more fun to perform by the right couple. Lucile Ball and Desi Arnaz kind of clever silliness. Bravo!

  • Nora Louise Syran: Coulda-Woulda-Shoulda (10-minutes)

A fun short comedy. Alterman sets up the family dynamics so well I almost spit out my coffee when the son/playwright entered. Bravo!

  • Nora Louise Syran: You Before Me

Love this short play. The relationship between mother and daughter is captured beautifully, the dialogue is all at once lyrical and modern, the allusions to the myth so effortless-- wonderful. Brava!

  • Nora Louise Syran: Everyday Monsters

"Monsters have to be destroyed." It takes such courage to read or watch let alone write a piece like this. The characters are well defined, the tension palpable, and the greek allusions powerful. The opening plunges us, as it does Douglas, firmly into the past. And then the play does not let go. It is simultaneously disturbing and freeing. Well done.
