Naturally I begin with a personal vision, but I get great pleasure seeing that vision evolve though the play development and/or production process. I've watched with delight as actors and directors have taken scenes that played one way in my head and surprised me by revealing possibilities I'd not anticipated.

I also realize that, while productions must remain true to the heart of a work, different companies, venues, and audiences have different needs. I'm flexible and work hard to come up with a fit that pleases us all.
