Artistic Statement

I tend to write the same kinds of stories as those that have always interested me. Ones that not only explore and give insights into the human condition in an entertaining and dramatic (and occasionally humorous) way, but also help us to better understand the world we live in. For I’ve always been very interested in why things are the way they are, as well as how to make them better… and why we should strive to.

Speaking more dramaturgically, I’ve also always been very interested (as illustrated by “Render Unto Drone”) in how when characters are put into some kind of crucible latent character traits can emerge, causing a person to realize, confront, and sometimes even overcome the things that have been holding him or her back.

I think the best plays not only captivate, entertain, and stir our emotions, but help us to realize that the problems of the world are largely a manifestation of people failing to understand (and be at peace with) themselves; that the problems “out there” are closely connected to – are external manifestations of – the problems inside each of us (and those who have gone before us) that have yet to be acknowledged, understood, and appropriately resolved.
