Artistic Statement

Artistic Statement

As a playwright, I believe that it is my job to give poetic voice to experiences that might otherwise be obscured by the mundane or the status quo. By creating text for performance, my artistic role is to dig up the (sub)text that has been buried by everyday life. Furthermore, as a queer theatre artist, I strive to write plays that queer text and culture by interrogating traditional structures of power and narrative. As I continue to develop my voice as a writer, I am interested in creating art that pushes audiences to question the ways they shape their own realities, stories, and relationships. This questioning is a political enterprise; I believe that it has the power to incite action towards positive social change.
