When the little mermaid travels to the underworld, she makes a deal with Death to exchange her voice for legs in the hopes to obtain an immortal soul. A chance encounter leads her to meet the recently deceased Evridiki who is suffering from painful memories from her marriage with the famous musician Orfeas. This meeting results in a lifeline for both women as the little mermaid tries to make a life for herself in the world above and Evridiki attempts to forget her past. This intersection of the Andersen tale and the Greek myth examines gender biases and the resonance of female friendship as both women face difficult decisions to claim agency over life and death.

In the Shadow of Woman explores the way that Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birutė Galdikas forged the field of primatology through their research on chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans. The play highlights the differences in how they approached their work and how the work affected their personal lives. All non-human primates are evoked through shadow puppetry.
