Artistic Statement

I write to create moments of tenderness that I wish would be more commonplace in today’s societies.
Consciously, my work evades main characters in favor of narratives that are woven by complex inter-connected relations, or in other words: community. In all my work, I begin with a central theme that I am struggling with, and I let the community of characters that I build for these plays teach me what it is that I really need to grapple within those structures. A quirk of my work is that every story incorporates some imagery of food or a food item. This is because I am fascinated by food origins and how so much of erased human history (and that of communities) is rooted in the mass production of food to sustain capitalism’s demands. As I anchor or weave my stories through these foods, I nourish my created communities and challenge our real-life capitalistic confines.
