As an immigrant from India, my primary objective as a writer is to feature immigrant BIPOC characters and tell their stories. I believe representation is even more important now at a time when immigration is the focus of fraught political debates in much of the western world. Immigrant stories are everyone’s stories, and the more we as a society see people from different backgrounds represented on stage, the more we can hope to move towards acceptance of the full variety and texture of human experience.
