Artistic Statement

I’m a writer who likes to mix mediums and stretch forms to explore the boundaries of truth and the themes of belonging: to community, society, and family. I earned my MFA in writing for the screen and stage at Northwestern, but I have experimented with a variety of stages and screens.

I’m a proud co-founder and producing playwright with a collective that creates site-inspired work in unexpected places like furniture stores, art galleries, DIY club spaces, and a salvage warehouse.

My eight-year tenure as a content producer for a global e-learning company required writing for the computer and mobile screen. I’m also exploring the weird and exciting worlds of film and television and my self-produced children’s content can be viewed on YouTube.

Lately, I’ve focused on writing for the ears: creating my individual audio plays and writing on the staff of the independent sci-fi comedy series Dear Earth I’m Really Sorry.

My work is influenced by my life experiences. I started as a performer. I earned my BFA in musical theatre and my writing is inspired by the rhythm, sound, and structure of that genre. I pay special attention to cadence when creating dialogue and I’m inspired by musical theatre tropes and structure when developing my narratives.

Most of my work is allegorical and fanciful but rooted in reality. I’ve written plays about people with disabilities meeting the challenges of inaccessible living environments. I’ve tackled the thorny world of mega-corporations, and I’ve brought to life a female Civil War spy in a one-woman show that asks viewers to make some hard decisions about truth.

No matter the platform, or subject matter, I am a collaborator by nature and no matter where I am or where I go, I will continue to absorb and find inspiration in the different cultural scenes and the people I meet.
