I am a California-born and Berlin-based director, deviser, and writer. My plays are often communal, ceremonial, and open. Performers greet spectators personally before informally starting the show. Spare, ritual storytelling combines with physical images beyond words to help the room meditate on truths we tend to ignore or forget, channeling a higher power through the simple vessels of the actors, who are often alone on stage with nothing but a prop or two. Actors and spectators work together to create the show anew each night. Even with traditionally-scripted theater, I work with the performers as writers to create a unique and custom-tailored performance. I draw much of my inspiration from the scout campfires of my youth and my Jewish heritage.
