I don't write to educate non-Natives about Native people. My plays explore the condition of humanity within the biological and political capsule of being Native. I'm deeply excited by the craft of playwriting and the ways to explore the human heart within the bodies of Native people. With light comedic tone, my recent plays have taken on historical moments, visual art, climate change, and love.

Writing plays and running my theatre company, New Native Theatre in the Twin Cities, has shown me and my audiences time and time again that the best way to talk about and bring attention to Native people and community is by showing the real lives, loves, triumphs, defeats, and comedy of being Native for ourselves without centering whiteness. It has always been the most powerful way to tell Native stories.
