  • Kara Emily Krantz: The Hook-Up

Filled with delightful reversals and twists, The Hook-Up is a hoot. I was fortunate enough to see the show produced in The Brisk Festival in Hollywood where it was raucously enjoyed by actors and audiences. There are certain moments of this play that I'll be giggling about for years to come.

  • Kara Emily Krantz: CHEESE ADDICT: A MONOLOGUE

This one hits me in the giggle-feels, because I worked at a wine & cheese store - I had a Masters, years of higher education, but I worked part-time for $10/hour because that's all I could get and beggars can't be choosers. I couldn't afford the damn cheese that I sold. Cheese, man. It's delicious. I can relate to this being the holy grail of luxury - buying something so particular, that goes bad so fast, that's so delicate. "Anything wine-infused" - yes. Yes. Cheese, please.

  • Kara Emily Krantz: The Woman and the Spoon (a monologue)

My gosh! This is a wonderful monologue! Filled with heart, and spitfire (and spit!) and pain and humor and shaking, vibrating truth. "It all adds up." My God, does it. So relatable, so heartfelt and pure and real. I HEART THIS MONOLOGUE.

  • Kara Emily Krantz: Ashes

Yes! Filled with intrigue, twists, and wordplay, this is a great short script for five teenagers. I love how the roles can be for any gender and therefore malleable in their interpretation and interpersonal dynamic. Reads smoothly, creates an environment with words and intentions. When I read "horror" for the stage, I'm often left underwhelmed but this piece is delightfully chilling! Great job!

  • Kara Emily Krantz: Talking Points

Ha! Yes! Delightful from open to close. Succinct, silly, charming, witty, intelligent, and sure to resonant with anyone who has experienced a breakup. Or a family. Or existential angst, or any mixture thereof. Hayet keeps a great pace, moving us seamlessly through various emotions. Wonderful piece! I also love that there is flexible casting, as one could certainly get creative with the staging of this short, whimsical play.

  • Kara Emily Krantz: Soldier Poet

Transported from the beginning, Soldier Poet explores not only the obvious exterior in which it is set, but delves deeply into the interior, the relationships, the humanity: the heart of any good story/play. Laced with wit, humor, intensity, compassion, and a certain type of lyricism and poetical nature, I was blessed to hear Soldier Poet in the form of a NYC staged reading in June of 2018. As topical as it is, it is also timeless, and beats to a beauty-full heart, similar to the heart of its author, Darcy Parker Bruce.

  • Kara Emily Krantz: ELEVATOR GIRL

My first foray into a Donna Hoke play, and how thrilled I am to have had the experience! I had the honor of listening to an incredible staged reading of "Elevator Girl" at InProximity Theatre's Project W Festival. This play is courageous, brilliant, hilarious, nuanced, unapologetic, and necessary. Listening, I found myself transported - I could see the production in front of me - this play could be performed everywhere with a raucous reception. I will be keeping my eye on this one - both the author, and the play!

  • Kara Emily Krantz: SOME KID: A MONOLOGUE (NOT REALLY, IT'S MORE LIKE A PLAY TITLED "ELECTION DAY" STARRING TOY FIGURES AS AMERICAN CITIZENS)

FINALLY read an Asher Wyndham monologue, and I'm glad I started with this one! Quirky and fun, and I love how the writer does what he wants with format. I mean, if every monologue was a picture monologue perhaps the world would be a better place. This makes me want to have more fun with my writing, as well.

  • Kara Emily Krantz: Rabbit Summer

This woman is a powerhouse: passionate, strong, sassy and basically brilliant. Conyer Lee has a way of weaving incredibly powerful social/political statements within the beating heart of intimate and dramatic relationships, creating flawed, fantastic, beauty-full human beings for whom we care and root and invest. Rabbit Summer is a fascinating ride through the season of a relationship, and the profound, long-lasting effects of miscommunication and mis-steps. Furthermore, from my admittedly "very white" perspective, Conyer Lee opens a door to develop awareness, shed ignorance, and develop...

  • Kara Emily Krantz: THE ONE ABOUT THE HAMSTER (co-written with Hugh Brinkley)

Okay, so, this is officially delightful and delirious - what a fantastic piece! I've been looking to read stories that get me out of my head and thinking more abstractly, and this definitely does the job! It's a roller coaster ride, but one I absolutely enjoyed being on - how fantastic (and super fun) this would be on the stage!
