  • Morey Norkin: Different

Jacquie Priskorn perfectly captures the current state of affairs in the US in this powerful one-minute piece. The ray of hope she offers is something to cling to. Here’s hoping Independence Day will be different in a good way. Until then, this needs to be shared far and wide.

  • Morey Norkin: The Fruits are Fruitful

Well, isn’t this just peachy. Seedless to say, I’m flattered that Mr. PLUMridge has a-gourded me the honor of paying tribute to my veggie-centric play. Vegetables and fruits are underrepresented in theatre, and both plays are prime examples why. I could wax on for hours, but kumquat may, if you need a laugh, here is your raisin d'etre.

  • Morey Norkin: Not Like This: a short play

Be careful what you wish for. That’s one possible lesson to take away from NOT LIKE THIS. Ultimately, it’s a look at relationships and priorities. And a most intriguing one at that. The choices for directors and actors seem limitless, but the result is likely to spark lots of audience conversation.

  • Morey Norkin: FAIR HOUSING

Jessica Feder-Birnbaum takes us back to 1972 when Nixon was running for a second term and Shirley Chisholm raised the hopeful prospect of the first Black female president. And a year before Donald Trump would be sued by the federal government for housing discrimination. With characters ranging from a female Archie Bunker to a zealous ACLU attorney, Feder-Birnbaum tells a compelling story in which the arc of the moral universe does indeed bend toward justice. May it ever continue to do so. Well done.

  • Morey Norkin: Brains

These zombies had me laughing from start to finish. Maybe whoever invented bran muffins needed to munch on some brains first. You’re sure to enjoy this delicious treat from Evan Baughfman.

  • Morey Norkin: Boogie Man

AAAHHHH!! That’s me screaming in case you couldn’t tell. This is an absolutely frightening couple of minutes. Whether onstage or as an audio production, BOOGIE MAN is guaranteed to get your heart racing. I need to lie down.

  • Morey Norkin: Nailed Shut

Nailed it! I was prepared for creepy but not for the hilarious payoff. Way to go, Julie Brandon!

  • Morey Norkin: Ghost of Shabbos Past

Sam Heyman has gifted us with this sweet inter generational and other worldly conversation. Examining faith, expectations, and acceptance with gentle humor, Ben and his Zayde spend a Shabbos for the ages. Enjoy!

  • Morey Norkin: The Impossible Narrator

That’s entertainment! Binz takes us on a joyride through lightning quick scenes that recall Hollywood cliches with plenty of laughs along the way. A clever concept that provides fun for audiences and actors alike. Make it happen.

  • Morey Norkin: Schnoz

“Funny, you don’t look Jewish,” has undoubtedly been said by many staring directly at a face looking for that one telltale sign. Whether we choose to wear our ethnicity openly, even defiantly, or make a change that protects us from the prejudices of others, we all deserve the opportunity to define ourselves. It can be complicated, as Jillian Blevins demonstrates with a great comic touch. Sara’s conversation with Babushka is, pardon me, right on the nose. I’m hoping the next time Sara looks in a mirror she’ll be able to say, “Hello, gorgeous!”
