John Mabey has given us a beautiful look at a relationship that may be more than the typical home seller and buyer. I was intrigued by how Peter, the young buyer who works with numbers seemed almost desperate for a human connection. Whereas Doris, the more mature seller seemed more hesitant after a lifetime of caring for her father. Memories are shared and maybe a house will be sold, but that seems almost beside the point. A lovely, thought-provoking play.

An early work of Scott Sickles (from the ‘90s, so he must have been a teen prodigy) that demonstrates what an immense talent he has always been. Divorced parents vie for their son’s affection and sexual orientation in this lively comedy filled with great one liners and wide ranging dialects. How this hasn’t been picked up as a TV sitcom is beyond me. Add this to your holiday reading list!

Holiday joy can be difficult to find for many people, even for a holiday as cheerful as the Community Sacrifice of Midsummer Solstice Harvest. Daniel Prillaman provides lots of laughs and surprises in this dark, funny tale. I really want to know the rest of the lyrics to the festive holiday song. This one belongs in every holiday themed festival, no matter the holiday.

I imagine it gets cold and lonely at the North Pole. And Santa has needs. Fortunately, he has an elf who is a wiz with Jello! In this hysterically original Christmas short, Christopher Soucy has boldly gone where Santa has never gone before! Loaded up the wazoo with with laugh out loud euphemisms, this one is destined to become a classic!

A Danny Devito-type character, loads of “father” jokes, and olive gardens! From the mind of John Busser, it’s Ancient Greece like you’ve never seen it before! Funny, smart, everything you expect from a John Busser comedy and only 22 (23?) drachmas!

I know this production of A Christmas Carol, and I imagine many of you do too. You will smile and be moved by the familiarity. But more than that, you will be in awe of how seamlessly Anna Ouyang Moench weaves this tale over decades as roles and lives change. This play has so much to say about life in the theater and does it with humor, heart, and unflinching honesty. Highly recommend!

Do you believe in miracles? How you answer that question may affect how you approach this intriguing short play. And this intriguing short play may have you questioning your answer. Rachel Feeny-Williams has given us Alice, a faith healer who becomes entangled with a hospital bureaucracy when she uses her powers, or gifts, which defy medical explanation. Not billed as a holiday play, GETTING BETTER still fits within this season known for miracles. A short piece that will likely produce hours of conversation.

Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend’s dialogue is perfection! The lively, comic banter between Jenny and her girlfriends and with her quasi boyfriend is totally believable and just flies by. This romantic comedy of 20-somethings struggling with relationships could easily become a hit TV sitcom or film. It’s already a hit as a play as far as I’m concerned.

This being a radio play and all, it’s probably the funniest play I’ll never see! Puns, groaners, sound effect humor, it’s all here. And breaking the fourth wall, but you can’t see it this being a radio play and all. John Busser has outdone himself!
