  • Christian Flynn: The Curious Tale of Marston Moore's Untimely Demise

I knew this was going to be a fun ride as soon as St Peter said she was standing not in front of the pearly gates, but “gates made of the finest pearls”. Plumridge is a wizard with words and this death-comedy crackles with life. Very funny. Would be even funnier on stage — which I think is the best compliment one can give to a comic playwright.

  • Christian Flynn: The Waters of Her Noblest Rivers

A truly noble play about the value of labor. A reminder that the cynics of the world aren't the government-badmouthing rebels but the yuppies who someone believe that everything has worked out for the best and the fairest — that no one person's contributions can actually help enact change, that wealth is king. A DC odyssey. Read this play.

  • Christian Flynn: Occupied

Very funny. Horrifying also. An atrocity exhibition disguised as a character study. Most of the scenes take place after culture-defining moments of political violence. But the characters are eerily disaffected. Zizek said that 9/11 wasn’t a wake up call snapping up us into reality, but the killing off of reality, forever condemning us to the virtual world. Kantor’s play captures the hell of growing up at the end of history. Welcome to the desert of the real. The twin towers are living on a farm upstate. Does that stranger have a gun? I'll see you in the bathroom...

  • Christian Flynn: Easy Women Smoking Loose Cigarettes

Absolutely hilarious. Characters that jump off the page immediately. Tough to read a times, but impossible to put down. A play that deals with healing — real, genuine, messy healing. Absolutely read this.

  • Christian Flynn: Twenty Horses Dead in Kentucky: A Hillbilly Effigy

What can one even say about this play? It's a play meant to be felt. One of the angriest plays I've read in a long time. A well researched (and even footnoted) play — but it uses it's research to smash, not to pontificate. Truly and wonderfully disturbing.

  • Christian Flynn: Any Port in a Storm

Fantastic! A romcom in miniature. Read this. Perform this.

  • Christian Flynn: Come Back Right

Funny, dark, and unexpectedly touching. Like David Ives gone dark... and gay. Fantastic.

  • Christian Flynn: PLEASE LAUGH

Hilarious! Scary! James Corden! A pop culture play that never feels #topical. Someone must stop these late-night psychos and Leiber just might be the person to do it. This play has a chaotic, unhinged, trickster energy. The funniest play I've read on this site by a wide margin.

  • Christian Flynn: how would you like me to atone?

Sophie's really staring down the barrel of human sexuality in her work. A perfect antidote to some of the over-intellectualization you can find in theatre. Fantastic play.

  • Christian Flynn: galatea 2.0

Was lucky enough to see this in person. Punch-you-in-the-face type of theatre. Something that should be seen. How many plays do you know start with a man pulling a woman out of a box? Equal parts horny, fun, and angry. Galatea's monologue is one of my favorite pieces of writing I've encountered on this site and can stand on it's own. Go see it while it's still at BK Arthaus!
