A lot of aspiring playwrights attempt to write the deep, meaningful conversations they wish they'd had with their parents. The results, though personal, tend to feel highly artificial. People just don't talk like that. Nobody ever says, "Mom, care to spend a few minutes yelling at each other about how you drove Dad away?"
In What's on the Menu?, Cam Eickmeyer hilariously captures what may be one of the most realistically clumsy father/son conversations I've ever read. There's so much that wants to be said, but damn, talking about feelings is hard. Talking about food? Way easier.
