Dane Futrell

Dane Futrell is a Chicago-based playwright, writer, and actor originally from Sanford, Florida. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Florida Gulf Coast University and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from Arizona State University. His work has been produced in New York, Arizona, Ohio, and Florida. His play Soul Magnet Beneath the Limestone recently won the Michael Kanin National Student Playwriting Award at KCACTF. His writing explores addiction, outsider identity, and existential inquiry.

Synopsis

An eclectic group of young train hoppers depart San Francisco in hopes of reaching Myrtle Beach in time for the annual Hobo Festival. As a new member joins the pack, tensions surrounding the purpose of homeless youth come to rise. Equally plagued by vices such as fentanyl abuse and past domestic traumas, the dirty kids must come to terms with themselves, and the journey that may destroy them.

Ricky begins to have epiphanies relating to the true nature of their once-meaningful, now-meaningless task, while Louis pines over his fascination with...
