Although I am not a dad, I LOVE a good dad joke, and so I really enjoyed Christopher's sharing of his father's work. Made me smile all the way through it. That being said, it WOULD probably make a very good comedic monologue for performance in the right hands, so good on ya, "elder" Plumridge! :)

An incredibly intelligent piece here, bringing to light some American history that might not be known to many. However, this is more than a history lesson; it's also a fascinating character study of brothers, politics, and the humanities amongst many other things. The allusions made throughout the play are insightful. There is a strange contemporary nature to all of this, even if that wasn't the exact intent. It does show you the power of this short piece, however, that it can conjure up such reactions and emotions as it does. Would love to see a production of this!

A fantastic and sexy neo Gothic piece that ramps up the intrigue and tension until the catharsis that is the climax. Hoffman does an excellent job in bringing his own unique take to the original short story and creates a piece that's not afraid to keep an erotic air simmering throughout. This would definitely make an excellent addition to the right type of festival... would definitely love to see it performed at some point!

I really enjoyed the situation that Grant sets up here and the byplay between the two characters. Even though you could say this scenario is serious, the jokes here help the audience through any tension even though it definitely remains in the background. The discoveries that we make along the way through this short story are definitely interesting and hold your attention. The ending is satisfying in terms of where the playwright wanted us to go. A 10 minute with definite merit.

A very funny look at high school politics and elections. And maybe some larger-scale ramifications on the greater political problems in this country? Maybe. But let's focus on the hilarious characters here and the many funny moments and jokes that punctuate Tyler's 10-minute. This would definitely be an audience pleaser in a 10-minute festival, to be sure. Vote for this play.

A very funny and absurd 10 minute. There's a lot to like about this little dark fable, and all three of the characters have their time to shame. This would definitely fit in well with the right type of 10-minute festival!

The structure that Vogel chooses here is very effective and always intriguing. There's nothing straightforward about this; the work takes you in several interesting twists and turns that all seem logical after you encounter them. There is of course rightful criticism in this work in how "faith" can sometimes be used as a weapon, as it was against Rachel here. However, this is no simple sermon in either regard. After reading or viewing it, you're left to ponder your own thoughts on the issues raised here, which shows that you've encountered a very meticulous, provocative work indeed.

Loved this! Cole's application of the particular challenge for the 28/29 Plays Later endeavor brought about a darkly humorous and yet ultimately insightful look at modern romance. It got laughs out of me at several points, and it was definitely a satisfying ending. It's also, interestingly, a bit of a "role reversal" in terms of situations like this, I feel, but that's part of the charm of this work as well. This would definitely be a great play for a festival to make part of their overall repertoire. Very enjoyable!

This play is unique and thrilling in its construction and execution. Even the "naming" of the characters allows for an exploration of them that you perhaps wouldn't get in a more conventional way. The use of rhythm, rhyme, and even fable in this exploration is bracing and exhilarating. There's much to ponder at the completion of it, but that's absolutely what good theater should provoke. This would be absolutely wonderful to see performed at a festival on a stage. A challenging and rewarding work to read, view, and then contemplate.

  • Brent Alles: Don't Preach at My Funeral (Ten-Minute Version)

Oh, this was a raw yet wonderful little piece of theater here. Gibbs effectively establishes that there are no easy answers in situations like this between two characters like this. And yet... there is surprising catharsis. There is hope that people won't always just cling to their previous suppositions without budging. That was the best feeling to come out of reading this piece. Sometimes, if we just listen to each other, we can find a way to change each other for the better. Hope out of grief... an excellent accomplishment for this particular work. Highly recommended.
