Tremendous fun. As a gamer myself, I had a grin on my face imagining myself in Jake's place... uh... a long time ago. (Sure, that's the ticket.) Anyway, the characters are just great here, and there are many laughs to be had along the way. I can imagine that this would be exciting for theaters of all type to stage and put on a thrilling show. Ready Player One? Time to Press Start to Begin and enjoy a very entertaining one act!

  • Brent Alles: Swamp City

My annual trips to the Sunshine State allowed me enough recognition to put a smile on my face as I read this. Loved the leisurely paced but still memorable narrative here. (Admiration for the way the dialogue is structured as well; very natural and authentic.) The characters are all distinct and draw you in. There's humor here and there but nothing forced. Just a pleasant way to pass the time with some interesting locals. Sometimes you need that, I think. I certainly enjoyed my time with them.

Nifty short little mystery piece here. Sets up the situation quickly and leaves you wanting to know more. Enjoyed it!

  • Brent Alles: Dungeons and Dragons of Love

Enjoyed this piece. Definitely made me nostalgic for my old D&D days, so there's good authenticity there. However, beyond that, Gref is effective in setting up interesting characters and an engaging fumbling towards romance that's pretty entertaining as well. Some good contemporary touches to this make it relevant to today's times as well. The ending was surprising and entertaining. This would make a good addition to the festival that would have it!

  • Brent Alles: In Like Company

Loved this ten minute... can see it being great either on stage or in radio format. The little tidbits in the dialogue are just great. As you're unraveling those, you're also wondering just where we're going on this little "joy ride," and it's great that you're kept guessing until the end. A gem of a thriller here!

  • Brent Alles: Night of the Were-Wife (a monologue)

Great monologue here that establishes (continues?) an interesting character and keeps your attention the whole way through. Not only would this be good for actors looking for a monologue to sink their teeth into, but this definitely could work as a stand-alone piece for a festival as well that would be very entertaining and enjoyable to those who got to see it. Look forward to more "chats" with Boone in the future!

  • Brent Alles: The Friendly Skies

I luckily don't spend a lot of time in airports, and when I do, I'm one of the people that Brandon describes as typically not striking up conversation with people. Pretty wonderful, then, that the playwright here is able to set up a very interesting situation and get very enjoyable conversation and dialogue out of the characters. Speaking of which, these are great characters for actors to sink their teeth into. Great twist at the end as well. A very enjoyable 10-minute!

  • Brent Alles: Interplanetary Paul's Divorce Spectacular

I was smiling from the opening monologue and then laughing throughout. A lot of funny lines in this clever exploration of marital strife from a space opera perspective. Say what? Oh yes. Amidst all the clever sight gags, wacky physical comedy, and allusions to sci fi works that will make you laugh, there's also some good insight on relationships and general warmth to the whole situation. Whodathunk it? Very enjoyable 10-minute that would fit well into a myriad of formats. Beam this one up!

  • Brent Alles: Schnoz

The concept and its execution is of course very funny, but it also allows for some clever and careful introspection into identity and body image. Excellent use of language in many forms throughout. This is certainly an enjoyable and thought-provoking short piece.

  • Brent Alles: What If You Stayed

There's an elegance of style with this audio play. The nature of the medium allows for Heyman to be poetic and contemplative. When the characters do speak, it's meaningful, and we're allowed to see the moments between them blossom even in the relatively short time we get to spend with them. It's very easy to "see" how the delivery of this material would create a rich world in the listener's mind. Can't wait to hear such an audio production bring this excellent story to life.
