Artistic Statement

My work is an exploration of the absurd and surreal as it meets reality. As a playwright, I strive to engage the audience, pose questions, and rarely answer them. I seek to inspire, jolt, and occasionally horrify the viewer into deep thought and reevaluation of the self.
Drawing inspiration from Impressionist painting, German Expressionism, Theatre of the Absurd, and the inherently strange, bizarre, and weird things that go on all around us, I write characters that are as colorful as they are black and white, as archetypal as they are nuanced, and as unnatural as they are a natural formation in their own landscape.
My plays delve into themes of mental illness, feminism, societal expectations, and what is perceived as “normal.” My stories may frighten, discomfort, or leave an audience feeling awkward and alone. They may also inspire, pleasantly surprise, and unite those watching. All inservice of The Loner, the central image of my work, and discovering how she is strange, how she is different, and how she exists in relation to the community around her.
