Artistic Statement

I see art as magic. And as an artist, I am a magic wielder. The stories I write are spells, which when cast, are intended to bring beauty to life.

Originally an actor, I grew up loving the performing arts. I moved to California for college and put myself on the path toward Hollywood, only to discover I was meant to be a different type of magic wielder: a playwright.

My art is strongly inspired by the magic of aesthetics. The visual arts have greatly influenced my approach to playwriting. The images in my mind inspire me to create unique, dynamic, and ethereal worlds for the stage.

I aspire to write plays that explore the full range of human emotion, some that are comedic and light-hearted and some that are raw, tragic, and touching. I have a love for both realist plays grounded in truth and fantasy plays, which are often otherworldly and absurdist.

I strive to tell the stories of the “wallflowers,” those who are often overlooked and forgotten, including those who were historically marginalized. For instance, many of my plays feature female protagonists.

I believe the magic of art is beautiful in dark forms as well as light and should not be limited to joyful and fantastical themes. Art’s magic embraces all facets of the human experience, the good and the bad. And I believe that through theatre, viewers will be able to uniquely encounter the spectacular magic of art.
